• Sample compartment window check
Visually check that KBr crystal is transparent with using the sample compartment window (STD) made of KBr.
If the KBr crystal has become cloudy, replace it with a new one.

NOTE: The KBr crystal becomes cloudy from absorbing moisture, and therefore reducing transmittance.
If a KBr crystal that has absorbed moisture is not replaced, deliquescence may occur, causing the sample compartment window to become contaminated with KBr solution.

• Additional information on free sulfur
NOTE: In an environment with free sulfur, optical elements such as the window plate might deteriorate from the free sulfur entering the interferometer. As a guideline for measuring the site, use the corrosive gas detection tool described below, confirming that the silver test piece does not discolor. When the existence of free sulfur is suspected, install a local ventilation system above the instrument to prevent free sulfur from entering it.

After LabSolutions IR Spectrum program is started and initializes IRXross, Self-Diagnostics is automatically executed.
Check that the initialization completes normally in the check items.

• Power Spectrum Check
IRXross performance is evaluated by measuring the power spectrum.
The power spectrum gives the intensity at various wavenumbers.
After ensuring that the sample compartment is empty, configure the following parameters and measure the power spectrum to verify the following specifications.

The intensity specifications for each wavenumbers are given below.
*)There is an absorbance peak of water vapor at 400 cm-1, so correct intensity of the power spectrum is not calculated. Thus the intensity of 403 cm-1, which is not affected by the water vapor absorbance, is used for evaluation of the power spectrum.

If the intensity does not meet the specifications, or the energy at high wavenumbers (to 4600 cm-1) is extremely low, run [Auto adjustment] on the [Instrument] Menu, and reanalyze the spectrum. If the power spectrum does not improve after the auto adjustment, the system may be damaged: contact a Shimadzu sales or service representative.
If the power spectrum intensity remains zero for all wavenumbers, ensure that the sample compartment is empty. if the IR beam is not disturbed, the light source may be disconnected. Contact a Shimadzu sales or service representative if the light source is disconnected. The light source is replaced by Shimadzu service personnel.

The validation program inspects the FTIR condition instead of Power spectrum check.
The IRSpirit provides the validation programs according to the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, European/US Pharmacopoeia, Chinese Pharmacopoeia and ASTM.
If wavenumber accuracy or wavenumber reproducibility is failed, execute [Instrument]-[Wavenumber calibration], and then execute the validation program again.
If failure is not solved, contact a Shimadzu sales or service representative immediately.
