• Sample compartment window check
Visually check that the sample compartment window (KBr) is transparent.
If the KBr crystal has become cloudy, replace it with a new one.

NOTE: The KBr crystal becomes cloudy from absorbing moisture, and therefore reducing transmittance.
If a KBr crystal that has absorbed moisture is not replaced, deliquescence may occur, causing the sample compartment window to become contaminated with KBr solution.

• Silica gel check
Open the top cover at the top of the instrument. The silica gel container can be seen through the maintenance window. Check that the blue particles of the silica gel have not discolored to purple or red.
The color of the silica gel changes from blue to red when it absorbs moisture. Replace the gel when it turns purple.

NOTE: The indicator silica gel is blue, purple, and dark purple. If the color of the indicator silica gel turns pale red, including the area around it, replace it with a new one.
Replace the top cover after completing this check.
