CAUTION: Wear safety glasses.
1. Be sure to perform 1) to 3) before starting maintenance.

2. Turn the knob to open the front door.

3. Gently draw out the L1 socket using the tweezers to bring it to the left side.
NOTE: Wear clean gloves when performing maintenance. Be sure to wipe off any dirt from the tools used for maintenance using gauze moistened with acetone.

4. After Drawing Out L1 Socket (arrow(1))
Insert the box replacement jig (photo below) into the specified location (enclosed part (2)) and screw it in.

6. Loosen the screws (two locations: enclosed parts) one full turn using the regular screwdriver.


7. Grip the interface cup with the tweezers and press to the right side. Push the hook down to hook the cup.



8. Fully loosen the screws (two locations) using the regular screwdriver while holding the box replacement jig with your hand.

9. Hold the box replacement jig and remove the ion source box assembly.

NOTE: After removing parts, place them on gauze to prevent them from becoming dirty.

12. Remove the box replacement jig.

13. Separate the repeller assembly from the ion source box.

14. Disassemble the repeller assembly using the exclusive tool.

17. Clean the ion source box and repeller electrode with emery cloth.
NOTE: Cut the emery cloth to an appropriate size with scissors before use.

18. Polish dirty locations with emery cloth, and blow off powder from the surface using clean compressed air, for example.

19. Put the ion source box and repeller into the beaker.
Pour in an appropriate amount of acetone, and perform ultrasonic cleaning for 10 minutes or more.
NOTE: Do not rinse the insulator bush. Replace it with a new one if cracked.

20. Remove the ion source box and repeller electrode from the beaker, and bake for 1 hour at 400 °C.
NOTE: Prepare a commercially available electrical furnace.
NOTE: Take care when handling the ion source box and repeller electrode because they are hot. Allow them to cool down sufficiently before handling them.

21. Assemble the repeller electrode using the tweezers.
Insert the insulator.

24. Insert in the order insulator→washer→spring washer→nut.

25. Align the small hole in the spacer with the center of the plate hole using the tweezers. Carefully tighten the nut of the repeller assembly.

Make sure that the plate hole is not out of position.
Tighten the nut.

NOTE: Exerting excessive force might cause the repeller electrode to warp or the insulator to crack.
26. Fit the repeller assembly into the ion source box, and attach the box replacement jig.
The box replacement jig can be fitted in easily by drawing out the two screws from the plate as shown in the photo.

27. Hold the box replacement jig and fit the ion source box assembly into the instrument. During this step, fit in with the screws facing down.

28. Tighten the screws (two locations) alternately with the regular screwdriver.

29. Unhook the interface cup using the tweezers, and press it against the ion source box.
Hold the box replacement jig, and lightly shaking the jig up and down, adjust the interface cup so that it is completely fitted in.

30. Tighten the screws (two locations) with the regular screwdriver starting with the screw on the left side.
Remove the box replacement jig.

31. Install the L1 socket using the tweezers.

32. Perform final checks. Make sure that items (1) to (4) below have been performed correctly.
Remedy any problems.
(1) The L1 socket must be fixed firmly to the sockets of the repeller electrodes. (yellow ■ arrow)
(2) The wiring around the ion source must not be short-circuiting. (pink ■ enclosed frame)
(3) The interface cup must be completely fitted into the ion source box. (blue ■ enclosed frame)
Remedy any problems.
(1) The L1 socket must be fixed firmly to the sockets of the repeller electrodes. (yellow ■ arrow)
(2) The wiring around the ion source must not be short-circuiting. (pink ■ enclosed frame)
(3) The interface cup must be completely fitted into the ion source box. (blue ■ enclosed frame)

(4) There must be no dirt on the O-ring (pink ■ arrow) or O-ring contacting surface (blue ■ arrow) of the vacuum container.

33. Close the front door, and completely turn the knob as far as it can go.

34. Turn the POWER switch on the rear of the instrument ON to start up the instrument.

35. <To Change the Type of Ion Souce>
Start up the [GCMS Real Time Analysis] program.
(1) Either click the [System Configuration] icon on the Analysis assistant bar, or click [Instrument] on the toolbar and click [System Configuration].
(2) Either double-click [MS] at [Modules User for Analysis] in the [System Configuration] sub-window, or select [MS] and click the [Properties] button.
Start up the [GCMS Real Time Analysis] program.
(1) Either click the [System Configuration] icon on the Analysis assistant bar, or click [Instrument] on the toolbar and click [System Configuration].
(2) Either double-click [MS] at [Modules User for Analysis] in the [System Configuration] sub-window, or select [MS] and click the [Properties] button.
36. (1) Click the [MS] tab to change the screen to the MS system configuration tab page.
(2) Click the arrow to the right of [Type] at [Ion Source], and select "EI".For Smart EI/CI ion source, select the [Smart QCI] checkbox.
(2) Click the arrow to the right of [Type] at [Ion Source], and select "EI".For Smart EI/CI ion source, select the [Smart QCI] checkbox.
(3) After setting, click the [OK] button. Click the [Set] button in the [System Configuration] sub-window to finish system configuration.
37. Click [Detail] at the instrument monitor.
38. Click the [Consumable] tab in the [Monitor Settings] sub-window. Note down the operation time at [Ion Source].
Click the [Reset Consumables] button.
NOTE: The ion source operation time is accumulated regardless of the type of ion source.

39. Enter "0" for the time at [Ion Source] in the [Reset Consumables] sub-window.
Click the [OK] button. Click [OK] in the [Monitor Settings] sub-window to close it.
