(GCMS) No peaks appear, or peaks are too small

Cause 1: Carrier gas flows?

Action 1: If carrier gas is not flowing, please let the carrier gas flow.

 

Cause 2: Carrier gas leaks.

Cause 3: Proper column installation.

Action 3: Install the column correctly.

 

Cause 4: Temperature of column, injection port or interface has dropped.

Action 4: Increase the temperature of each heated zone to the appropriate value.

 

Cause 5: Appropriate column selection.

Action 5: Change to an appropriate column (check column polarity, etc.).

 

Cause 6: Split ratio too large.

Action 6: Decrease split ratio.

 

Cause 7: Sample concentration or injection amount too low.

Action 7: Increase sample concentration or inject a greater volume of sample.

 

Cause 8: Filament open (or burned out).

Cause 9: Detector voltage too low.

Action 9: Increase detector voltage gradually.

 

Cause 10: Appropriate analytical conditions.

Action 10: Correct the method parameters.

 

Cause 11: MS properly tuned.

Action 11: Perform autotuning or adjust the instrument.
